I've always fixed this (when I changed Monitors or laptops) by doing what Guy suggested.....editing the config file and resetting the window location(s) in that file for the missing window(s). The only other "easy" fix I've experienced is to reconnect the monitor where the missing window once showed up.....drag and drop the window somewhere more "central" in location (as in a location that will exist when the monitor is subsequently removed)...then unhook the old monitor.
But the quickest fix (and the one MANY suggest), is the edit of the config file for the window in question. I've done that several times....over the years....as I changed monitors or laptops..........
