I've somehow encountered a problem getting DX4WIN to recognize my '590. I've tried any number of baud rates and Kenwood radio selections from the Preferences menu with no luck. It used to work so I'm suspicious of an update, but no way to verify. If I open WriteLog with the same settings the radio is recognized just fine and communicates perfectly with the software.
