Jack replied privately to this (not sure why not to the reflector) and
clarified some things. Since it wasn't sent to the group, I won't quote
directly but paraphrase in case others are interested.
If you do not check the "Exclude Past Submissions" box, the Award field is
ignored and DXbase "starts over" creating a brand new award. When it does,
it first looks for QSOs marked in the Select DXCC box. If these are legit
then it searches for others that are valid.
I understand this, but I'm still curious about what criteria the program
uses when "starting over", without any QSOs being selected by me ("Select
Marked QSO Records" is unchecked).
I would think (obviously incorrectly) that the first confirmed QSO (by
date) would be the chosen one. In the situation I described earlier, a QSO
made in 2002 (4L8A) was 'preferred' over one made in 1979 (UF6DL). Both
were for 20 meter SSB so there doesn't seem to be a preference there.
But what the heck, my P5 QSO is going to count so I'm happy <G>.
