I played around with resetting My Kenwood TS-870 RIT by inserting radio
control characters in the F1 CQ function key (ahead of the CQ message).
Works fine until you go to use the Auto CQ Mode with F1, then it sends
the F1 radio control characters as well.

I changed Auto CQ to use F2 which I hadn't progrmmed radio control
charctors into. Works fine this way.

But---
In the Random CQ mode if one programs the RIT reset control characters
into each of the four F keys, which one would have to do since the first
CQ message is picked randomly, then the control characters are sent with
each CQ. Is this taken care of in a setting using <Cntl J> or is it
something to put on the wish list? Maybe someone has already asked the
question?

Page 47 of the Version 6.71a manual describes how to format these
control messages.

For my radio, when programming F1, I used <Cntl P><Cntl C>SRS=RC;<Cntl
P><Cntl D>TEST \ TEST. This sends control charactors to the radio just
before sending out the CQ. (RC is the RIT Clear cntl character on the
TS-870)

I believe other function keys such as Cntl Fx and Alt Fx can be
programmed to cntl the radio without sending out CQ etc.
