Tom, Development of DXbase began in 1986. It was started by Jack, AA4LU and Dean W8ZF. Contributions were also made to that effort by Ken, K1EA and author of CT, and Dick, AK1A author of PacketCluster. At that time, Jack and Dean were looking for a computerized logging program that integrated with VHF packet ( Dean was one of the original founders of PacketCluster in the SouthEast). It turned out there were none so Jack and Dean began the process of developing their own logging program using Borland C. Folks in Atlanta found out about it and liked it. It has grown from there. DXbase for DOS version 1.0 was released in 1988. The first release of DXbase was offered on 360k floppies ( remember them?).
There were 9 DXbase for DOS upgrades released in the years following until last year DXbase for DOS was discontinued. DXbase for Windows was released in 1997. Development shifted to Microsoft C++ and other languages. There have been 6 upgrades released since then. DXbase for Windows is used in over 150 countries and all 50 States. If you still had some of the advertising for each of those releases, you would find that most of the significant features that are contained in logging programs around these days were introduced in DXbase first. And that trend continues today. How's that for trivia!
