Folks, I would appreciate some information if you don't mind.
For a long time, we have seen requests similar to the following: 1. Provide a working demo for download. 2. Allow DXbase to be downloaded without having to ship a CD. 3. When a patch is prepared, update the initial distribution so someone does not have to download a patch. 4. Keep the cost of DXbase down as much as possible. In response to this and other issues, we have decided that future releases of DXbase will follow a new distribution approach. 1. DXbase will be downloadable from the web, including upgrades. 2. When initially downloaded, it will be in trial or demo mode. Some features will be disabled. 3. Once a purchase is made, a very small registration file will be emailed to the purchaser. 4. The registration will enable the full functionality of the software. 5. The registration can be used on multiple machines and is not hardware dependent. 6. Current estimates suggest the file size for download will be 30meg. 7. A CD can still be obtained via postal mail for additional cost. 8. Once downloaded, a user could create their own CD from the download. My task, if you will give me some input, is to try and predict the percentage of folks who will still require the CD be shipped. I need to understand this so that I can make some projections on how many CDs to have mass produced. Obviously, we don't want to make too many and we also don't want to run short. We anticipate that most folks will want the download only and thereby save themselves some expense. So, if you feel you will require the CD, please drop me an email and just let me know. This will help me do some future planning. I've set up a special email address: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Thanks, Courtney
