Ya, I wouldn't connect to the net without one. It would be pure suicide.
Well, we were surprised about this aspect of Outlook, so to avoid trouble,
we simply zip the reg file now and that way there is no file blocking of
attachment.

BTW, We recently installed a D-Link firewall/network hub ( about 60 bucks )
that lets us network up to 4 pcs with printer sharing and firewall. It
works flawlessly and makes us very secure on the net. It leaves our DSL
connection always on too. So we no longer have any connection software or
any software firewall software running. The speed of our connection is much
faster without all the software having to run.

Cheers,
Jack

Hi Jack,

If you are running Outlook 2000 w/SP1 or Outlook XP (Outlook 2002), the
application will prevent any attachment that represents a file that can be
executed from passing through.

You can not defeat this 'security' feature from Outlook. However, you can
modify Outlook's 'Level 3' registry entries that define which of these
files can not be passed through. If you are confident in modifying your
registry, go to Microsoft's Knowledge Base and down load Knowledge Base
Article 318515 or 284414 (Outlook 2000 and 2002 (XP) respectfully).

An easier method is to buy ZoneAlarm PRO firewall (not the free version)
which has email attachment security. This application renames the
attachment before Outlook 2000 SP1 or XP prevents them from passing. You
look up in ZoneAlarm Pro's log to determine what the file type was before
ZoneAlarm changed it, and then rename the attachment file back to is
original file name. Hey, Doesn't everyone need a firewall?

Anyone know why so many folks are finding that Outlook blocked the .reg file
attachment we email to them as an attachment? Is there some option in
Outlook that could be changed to allow this file to be accepted by Outlook?

Help
