Well, I'm still trying to interface my 706MKIIG. I have a USB to Serial adapter that comes up (in device manager) as COM4.
I am using an interface cable by N9ZLE, that has two outputs, one serial data and one "CW". I have loaded the DXbase CW drivers as WIN XP. I have selected the CW interface as "InternalDXbase keyer" and selected Dxb24COM4 as the com port. I have "ICOM" & IC-706MKIIG selected,COM4, 9600, none, 8, 1. I have CTS checked. The radio interface works properly, click on a spot and the radio follows etc. But, I can not get the CW to work (on a DELL INSPIRON 2200 notebook), Windows XP). I have exactly the same installation on my Toshiba laptop running Windows 98SE (built in serial port, COM1), radio control and CW work perfectly. Someone out there has to have solved "THIS" mystery. But my speculation is that this isn't going to work for internal CW because the driver is expecting to see a "real" serial port with direct lead access, not a converted one. My advice is to look at the Winkey ( K1EL ) device which is fairly inexpensive and doesn't rely on any drivers to work. I have never used a USB/Serial conversion but maybe some others could tell you if they have tried USB/serial conversion to connect with Winkey.
