Karl,

I have the com port radio communications working. Even my DIGI 8P board
came up with the XP64 drivers. I haven't hooked rotors or anything up to
them yet.

I had to do some fumbling around with the RADIO.INI file. VISTA didn't
recognize my ADMINISTRATOR privileges correctly and I had to edit the file
outside of the DXBase 2007 directory. That was sort of stupid. I think it
is a slight bug in VISTA permissions. I've been finding all sorts of little
things like this, I'm sure they are working on them. I select 5C for my
7800 so the address is in common with writelog my contest software. (which I
haven't attempted to load yet)

To move my Access database I burned a CD and then copied it into the DXBase
2007 directory; That didn't go well either. The software couldn't find the
file! I had wrote over an empty K0DD empty database that DXB had found and
it kept finding the EMPTY FILE even though the large full one would show up
in the directory. I don't think Vista even knows what its doing.

I deleted file and made sure both were gone, rebooted and RECOPIED the big
file and that time it viewed in the DXB selection window.

This is really weird stuff....

Then I registered the com ports selecting XP as the operating system and
everything just came right up.

I haven't gone all through the features of the software and just got a
printer hooked up. MY scanner doesn't have VISTA drivers and HP isn't
making any. Well, when looking on the website it automatically came back
and said your device is over 7 years old buy a new one. Well I use it maybe
once every two months and its still like brand new. I will attempt to use
XP64 drivers and think about another brand than HP if it doesn't work.

That "Go BUY A New One" really rubbed me the wrong way.

That will be an easy fix to the REG DISK to automate that procedure.

I was also working on that track when I got your email Karl. Great news.

I was able to get mine up here also. I still haven't put my computer in the
rack and tried the COM port radio communications yet. Did you get yours
running?

I wasn't able to copy and paste the registration entry... I had to type it
by hand, that was fun. MAYBE you found a trick I didn't see...

Also MY 8 com port DIGI board doesn't have new VISTA drivers yet, however
the tech guys said the XP ones work, but I don't know if they knew I was
running 64 bit, because I had asked them BEFORE I actually had bought 64.

I just got the database transferred over and its all up now. I can slide
this computer in and see what else is broke.

Subject: [Dxbase] DXbase2007 and VISTA 64 bit problem - solution found

problem: DXBase cannot find the key and therefore stays in Trial mode.

solution:

The software cannot handle the automatic placement of the key in both the 32

bit and the 64 bit registry.
Therefore it is necessary to make a modification to the 64 bit registry in
VISTA 64.
BACK UP THE REGISTRY FIRST !

1) go the system prompt
2) click on "start search" and type in regedit and do a "enter"
3) go to HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE and click on it
4) find the folder "Wow6432Node" and in it place a new folder "Scientific
Solutions" and into this one another " Dxb2007"
5) in that folder create a new entry called "Key" (you will have to rename
the new key#1 into Key)
6) go under HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE to the existing 32 bit folder that says
Scientific Solutions and under Key copy the text string associated with it,
7) go back to the new folder created in the Wow6432Node as Key and past the
text value into it.
8) close the registry

Restart DXbase2007 and it will work.
