I wish to thank all who contributed suggestions towards my problem, now solved. A corrupted host file was the culprit (an overseen subtle detail in the punctuation). Thanks again, a most friendly community. After switching from DXBASE 2006 to 2007, I notice the the callsign.mdb file is half the size it was under 2006 (25M vs 50M). Is this indicative of a problem? Thanks AL K9QFR From [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sun Mar 2 14:04:49 2008 From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] (Jack) Date: Sun Mar 2 14:08:51 2008 Subject: [Dxbase] Smaller callsign.mdb file References: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Message-ID: <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> No. Over time, your database file can grow in size and will contain a lot of allocated but unused space. That's why there are compression utilities that reclaim unused space such as the one included in DXbase 2007. When you import a prior version, you start out with a fully compressed database in 2007 thus the size likely to be the smallest your data will allow. As time goes by with use of your database, you can compress occassionally to keep the size minimal.
