Changing the baud rate to 19200 in the 746p and DXB cured the problem. Settings are 19200, none, 8, 1, RTS high. Also address is 66h in the 746p. Many thanks to all. problem agn. DXBase is the only program where there is a problem with the IC-746p. Also, the IC-7000 and IC-756p work FB. I downloaded the manual from the Icom site and see that the you can set the address by going to the set-mode...item 36 sets baud rate and 37 is the address. My friend's radio was set to 66h which appears to be what is in the .ini file. If you get an answer, I hope you'll post it to the reflector...
