However, I am inclined to upgrade from W2K to XP vs. Vista. I can still get a computer built locally with XP. I have seen too much about Vista, especially in terms of DXBase issues, to make me want to risk it.

I am NOT a computer enthusiast nor an intuitive Windows user. Just ask W4DUP, Sandy. :)))))

Am I making the right decision???????

W2K and XP are two excellent interaces and I wouldn't see a need to upgrade beyond either of these, at least not until there's a clear reason to do so. If you're very comfortable with W2K you can make XP look and feel exactly like W2K by removing the Fisher-Price Interface. SP3 is rock-solid and runs faster than Vista on most peoples' systems and you won't have to go through the nightmare scenario of setting up DX Base or other older ham radio software under it.

And *Don't* even get me going on UACs under Vista either. If you understand what's happening they're a pain in the butt. If you don't, it's an invitation to buy a Mac.

Given your circumstances, I'd say look for a copy of Windows XP Professional with Service Pack 3, disable the XP-ish interface so it looks just like W2K and you'll be good for years to come.
