I have DXB2006 running under Vista Home Premium (32 bit) without a problem. I
still cannot get DXB to key CW from within the program, but I had that problem
with WinME and WinXP too. Contrary to Bill's advise, I installed mine in the
C:\Program Files folder. The installation works fine, but this allows Vista to
control where changes to your mdb files are written. Instead of placing them
in the \Scientific Solutions\DXBase2006 folder Vista uses the Virtual Path for
data base storage. It's not bad, just different. It took me awhile to figure
out how to make the various DXB Utility programs work by pointing them in the
right direction, but nothing major. You can do as Bill suggests and install in
the root directory if you want to avoid Vista's file handling.

As for the Help file not working under Vista, that is due to a Microsoft
decision. Microsoft did not include the WinHlp32.exe file needed to run DXB
help files in Vista and Windows Server 2008. You can download the missing file
from the Microsoft help site, but some functionality will be missing due to
certain macros being disabled unless you take additional steps (which Microsoft
recommends against doing) to activate the crippled macros. Apparently the
macros were being exploited by hackers to do malicious things to Windows and
rather than fix or update WinHlp32.exe Microsoft eliminated it from Vista
altogether. More details and instructions on how to download the missing file
can be found here.

I downloaded the missing file and my DXB Help files work, but I did not
activate the missing macros. I don't find it to be a major problem.

The "Single" best way to make DXBase run in Vista.....

DO NOT INSTALL IN DEFAULT DIRECTORY.

Install in a different drive if available i.e. D:/DXB2008

and when the program is installed
Right click on the shortcut and select "Run as Administrator"

The help file issue is tougher, and hopefully someone with update the Help to
vista format.

Last year my old cvomputer with W-XP crashed and I got a new computer with
Windows Vista which does not want to
work together with DB-2007, especially in the Help part. I know that many
of you have resolved this problem. Can I
get any help on this matter. Thanks so much.
