Last night I attended the BARC ( Boulder Amateur Radio Club) meeting in
Boulder, CO.

The program was the second part in a two part series coveing:

Antenna Tuners and Impedance Matching with topics on antenna tuner
topologies, Smith Chart basics, impedance matching using components and
transmission lines, and finally some real world matching examples.

This very issue was addressed (what diameter wire do you need to cover the
80 mtr band). And the answer is:

about 3 1/2 ft will do it; not a common item at your local Home Depot
electrical dept.
