Sorry for your computer crash. While I agree that WinXP would solve your problem. You may also find this method to be workable.
The problem partly is that Vista doesn't want unauthorized person adding/writing to programs. This is one of those good/bad things. So they have two levels of authorization "Administrator and Run as Administrator" If you up for it. I'd 'uninstall DXBase after makeing sure your log files are stored in a safe place. Then you can do one of two things. When Vista starts, it offers you the ability to log on as the Administrator or under the name you gave it. Sounds like they should be the same, but they aren't. Log on as 'Administrator' He is the supreme being in Vista eyes and has permission to do all things. Now install DXB, but DO NOT ACCEPT THE DEFAULTS. Create a Directory other than in the C:/Programs directory. After installation reboot, and log in under your user name. Find the Icon for DXBase on you Desktop or in the Start>Programs and right click Select 'Run as Administrator' This will probably solve your problems. No guaratees. 2nd option If you have a D drive, a second hard drive, install DXBase there. Again, find that icon and right click, select 'Run as Administrator'. That was my approach. I'm not a Vista fan at all, but it behaves the way it does in an ill designed attempt to protect you from the baddies. Good luck. BTW: If your curious. I have 7 computers in this home office, all running XPProSP3, except this one that I'm writing you on, which is Vista Ultimate. ----- Original Message ----- From: "Gaston Ronsijn" <[email protected]> To: <[email protected]> Cc: <[email protected]> Sent: Saturday, April 11, 2009 9:06 AM Subject: [Dxbase] DXBase 2006 installation, Vista SP1,MFC Application does not work any more. > Hi, > > Due to a computer crach, I had to buy a new pc.
