I installed a help file fix here on Windows 7 and works fine.
Below is a copy of a message from a forum with links to a fix.
I don't remember if this is the one I installed or not but, I was thinking
mine was from Microsoft. I am running Windows 7 64 bit RC1.

Don't wait for Microsoft, they've stated it'll be available with the Windows
7 RTM / Windows Server 2008 R2. How can I evaluate Windows 7 RC without
being able to view HLP files?! So I made my own compilation for both Windows
7 x64 and Windows 7 x86. The installer is a batch (CMD) file, which does the
job of winhlp32.exe/winhlp32.exe.mui replacement and fixing Registry
entries.

I fixed the host file issue as described below. But the HELP file fix did
not work. Apparently the Vista help file does not work with V7. I have found
some Vista/XP software will work with V7 but not all. I could not find a V7
HELP file to download so I will continue to look.

The 7O1YGF was the last one I needed, so I guess I am now on the #1 Honor
Roll.

Dave,

Not sure about Win 7, which I have downloaded but not installed yet, but
with Vista, you need the hosts file to be in:
c:/windows/system32/drivers/etc/hosts

You might find a backup copy of hosts there which you can simply rename as
hosts, or you can copy a hosts file from a previous installation on the same

machine or a different one.

For the help, Vista and probably also Win 7 need the WinHlp32.exe file to
read help files from the XP days. See
http://support.microsoft.com/kb/917607. Download the file and then the help
files will work in DXBase, although sometimes with weird results when you
click on things. But at least you can see them.

If you have telnet problems in Vista or Win 7, do here
http://www.lib.berkeley.edu/Catalogs/telnet_problems.html

Another quirk, your main .mdb file is not saved in the program
files/Scientific Solutions/ folder. Instead it will be saved at
C:\Users\yourusername\AppData\Local\VirtualStore\Program Files\Scientific
Solutions\DXbase 2007

Where yourusername is the name you are logged in to your computer under. In
my case, for example, it is w4ag.

Hope these help,

I just installed Windows V7 on my test PC and also installed Dxbase 2006.
Dxb works fine so far except for 2 issues; the hosts file & help file. The
hosts file is not being recognized and doesn't show up under 'file:Modify
Hosts file' or 'Internet options'. I tried copying it from my XP machine but

no luck there. I can open the file with word pad and seems fine on the V7
machine.

I remember reading about the 'help file' issue but I didn't save the email
thread.

Any ideas would be appreciated.
