I have been using DXBase for many years (to many to remember), and I have looked at a few other logging programs (anybody who says they haven't, are probably lying) just to see what features they have (or don't have). That said, I have not found any that I thought would work better for me. One feature that DXBase has that I have not found on any other program is the capability to control two rotors; and that is the "trump card" for me.
As far as the PJ updates, the one that is been circulating around works very well and takes about 20 minutes to do. And for those of us who have worked a "gazillion" PJ's since 10-10-10, I think it is worth taking the time to do the update. Makes it a heck of a lot easier tracking what you still might need. And as far as Neil's update, I think you are still going to have to go back into your log and update your contacts with the correct prefix for the countries. Once you do the update, any new contacts will "fall into" the correct prefix for the country. Using the info that was provided and its all done manually :)... I wasnt even in a hurry for the update but when I saw the info I just went ahead and did it.. As far as different logging programs go I really could just use 2007 forever as its that easy to add new countries to the database. I have another logging program here that ive been messing with for almost a year I think and it works well and is pretty simple and its free but thats not the reason i chose to try it.. I just tried it for fun:).. Im not gonna mention the name because it really doesnt matter. DxBase is still my #1 choice and ive been using it since the dos days with only one problem! When I started Jack told me my IC-735was out dated and I should buy a new rig if I wanted rig control ( ill bet he doesnt even remember that). Well that didnt set well with me and I bitched till we got it interfaced with dxbase :)... Why do we need constant updates anyway ? If it aint broke dont fix it !.. Sure the updated countries with an automatic updater is a plus but as far as the rest of the program it works for me... Ok off my soap box.. 73 and good DX. Joe saved us on the 40 changes and I am sure he is watching for the changes as we all are... For those that feel that there is better logging programs out there then there is no question and a no brainer --- CHANGE PROGRAMS... We sure do miss Joe and all his efforts to keep DXBase current. Maybe it is time we all look for another logging program. All the other programs that I know of have had the PJ update since the ARRL announced the country codes for them. and some even before.
