I went into the radio.ini file and added the "Read Split" setting for the IC-7800 CI-V commands and was able to get the radio to send the split frequency to the Notes section of QSO log in DX Base 2007 when I logged a contact. I was overly excited with the 7800 sending split freq to the log UNTIL I realized the radio was sending this information when spit was turned on and off on the transceiver. It was nice to have the 7800 send the info to the DX Base log but not very valuable when it sends the split info when you're not operating split.
The new CI-V read command (0F) has a read split setting of 00 for off and 01 for on. I was wondering if the new version of DX Base could possibly control this feature to show the spit frequency in the log only when spit is turned on in the transceiver. I would not be surprised if Icom offered the same CI-V split upgrade to other dual-watch transceivers in the line that can be software upgraded like the IC-7600. 73, Gary W8VI -----Original Message----- From: [email protected] [mailto:[email protected]] On Behalf Of Ron Stordahl AE5E Sent: Tuesday, December 28, 2010 8:19 PM To: Joe WA6AXE; [email protected] Subject: Re: [Dxbase] ICOM 7800 new FIRMWARE update Joe, et al. I downloaded the addition to the commands and it appears that all that was added in this regard was the ability to sense if split was active. No mention of dual-watch nor sensing which VFO is the TX vfo. So at first glance it appears what they have done is nearly useless. At least to someone who uses dual-watch in preference to split. Which I would think would be almost everyone! What they have done appears to be to support their new remote control software. If you can trust that to set split, set dual-watch etc reliably, then you don't really have to be able to sense it...although you are living dangerously. It is better to 'trust but verify'. So to me it looks like a disappointment...one which has taken 6 years to implement. It was probably 6 years ago that I spent way to much time trying to bring this shortcoming to their attention. I have moved on. The one note from the above webpage talks about the: Additional functions for CI-V commands (ex. CW message) are provided to support the RS-BA1. This RS-BA1 is also talked about at: IP REMOTE CONTROL SOFTWARE http://www.icomamerica.com/en/downloads/DownloadDocument.aspx?Document=530 Oh - I do not have an IC-7800 .. just was following up on the long-standing ICOM SPLIT problem. 73 Joe wa6axe ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html ______________________________________________________________ Dxbase mailing list Home: http://mailman.qth.net/mailman/listinfo/dxbase Help: http://mailman.qth.net/mmfaq.htm Post: mailto:[email protected] This list hosted by: http://www.qsl.net Please help support this email list: http://www.qsl.net/donate.html
