John,

Yes - on Windows7 64bit machines - you can right-click-on the Shortcut(s) to
DXbase2007 ver 1.09 -- and select properties - then select Advanced -- on the
next
window -- place a checkmark next to Run As Administrator ... click apply/ok

This takes care of the Administrator routine stuff .. I also on my 64 bit
machine has had to (even though I am logged-in as Administrator) run
DXbase AS ADMINSTRATOR ... just one of those things about win7 64bit ...
but, after the first time -- voila!!

You never saw the original install of a dxb2007.ini file -- because you had not
yet "Run As Adminstrator" for dxb2007.exe (and/or Shortcut(s)) ... the
dxb2007.ini file you saw in the dxb2007 directory is the DEFAULT version
and the Projects path .. etc .. is simply the OLD DEFAULT from the Author.

You should be OK -- as the LATEST BETA version that is currently at
Neal's website is probably about ready for FULL-BLOWN version'ing ...

No outstanding BUGS on Neal's list -- that I know of .....

Subject: RE: [dxbase] Data Source Dialog on startup

Neal and Joe, Sorry for breaking in on the OP’s thread, but it’s timely
for me. For reasons unrelated to DXbase, I’m converting (reloading from
scratch, that is) my DXbase machine from Win 7 32 bit to Win 7 64 bit. So I
thought I’d try the 1.09 beta install. I downloaded it from here
yesterdayhttp://www.abrohamnealsoftware.com/DXB2007_109.zip I didn’t let the
installer install DXbase in its default location. I redirected it to D:\Ham
Radio\DXbase2007\ since that’s where I wanted it (for ease of backup with my
normal backup method). On first running of the software after installation, I
also got the Select Data Source dialog. Couldn’t do anything with it, so I had
to stop and come here. (a) Joe said to check the paths in my dxb2007.ini file.
Well, there’s no dxb ini file anywhere in \Windows or any subdirectory. In
fact, there’s no such file anywhere on my C: drive. Dxb2007.ini only exists in
the DXbase install directory itself. I didn’t find any section in this file
labeled like [path], but I did find a section labeled [dir], and indeed all the
paths were wrong. They pointed to C:\projects\DXbase2007, which is neither my
actual install directory or the installer’s default. I changed them all to
point to my install directory. But next time running the program, I still got
the data source dialog. (b) Neal said to make sure the run as administrator
checkbox was set in properties. Well, I don’t think permanently running the
program as administrator is a good solution because then I would get the
screen-dimming and the “do you really want to run this program as
administrator” dialog every time I started DXbase. But just to test things, I
right clicked and ran DXbase as administrator just one time. I didn’t get the
data source dialog! In fact, I no longer get it even not running as
administrator, and DXbase appears to run okay (in trial mode) after just that
one time running as administrator. I don’t think 1.09 is ready for prime time
yet, but that’s why it’s called Beta, I guess. I’m reporting the above in that
spirit. Now, to try registering it… 73,John, W1JA From: [email protected]

all,Something nasty has happened in the last day or so; I’m guessing it’s a
Microsoft update that broke something in DX Base. When I attempt to start up DX

need to select here or why this suddenly occurred after years of trouble-free
operation. Using v1.07 under Win7/64. Any thoughts? - pjd
