Ron,

I have the Quick Split option turned on and use it exclusively. I know Joe has
a new driver out there that enables the Dual Watch, but I have chosen not to
use that feature.

When I see a spot that doesn't have the QSX I tune to the spot frequency to
make sure I can hear the DX and adjust my beam if necessary. Then I press and
hold SPLIT for 1 sec to activate the Quick Split function. Now, here is why I
like Quick Split. When you hold the SPLIT button for 1 sec the sub-VFO is set
to the frequency and mode of the main VFO, the sub VFO is selected as the
tuning VFO and a little flag message, F-INP, is displayed. This is an
indication the radio is waiting for you to enter the split offset by using the
keypad buttons. If I hit the 3.5 [2] button, and then the SPLIT button again,
the sub VFO is automatically tuned 2 kHz up from the DX calling frequency. If
the DX is listening down the drill is to press and hold SPLIT and when the
F-INP flag shows hit the GENE [.] button first, then the button(s) needed to
set the amount of offset. When SPLIT is hit again the sub VFO tunes down the
specified number of kHz and you're ready to rumble.

In both methods the TX indicator is turned on, indicating this will be the
transmit VFO, and this VFO is highlighted meaning that turning the knob will
tune this VFO, not the RX VFO. If I need to listen to where he is working I
hit the DUAL WATCH and listen while I tune the TX VFO. I have never used he XFC
button to tune the VFO, but just now noticed it provides a running calculation
of the amount of offset either + or - while tuning and listening. If the DX is
light and the pile up is loud I turn DUAL WATCH off while I calling so I can
hear the DX if he comes back to me. Others may have a different method, but
this works well for me.

Puzzling...I have run with my 756ProII and III for years and years with CIV
Transceive ON. I am glad you have solved your issue, but I wonder what is the
reason? Sometimes it is just as well not to know I guess.

On your 7600 I have a few questions. When working DX perhaps from a spot
which does not have a QSX in it, what steps do you take to go into the set up
you wish for split or dual watch? Do you have the 'quick' option enabled for
these? Is it adequate to push just the dual-watch key and hold it down for a
second to get the desired result? The new driver is, to my knowledge, setting
both split and dual-watch. When doing this manually have you been pushing both
buttons to get where you want? The 7600 will not provide any information about
the state of dual-watch, only split, but Joe was able to use that to
successfully do the desired settings, employing dual-watch and using the sense
of split as a proxy for dual-watch...as I recall.

Just to update the reflector, I found the problem and it is now resolved!
Joe helped me quite a bit off line by suggesting modifying the IC-7600
driver by changing the Pacing and ECO settings to slow down the
communication between the radio and DXB. Unfortunately many hours of
tinkering did not show consistent and reliable improvement.

Finally I focused on the possibility that the problem was related to CIV
data collisions somewhere along the line. My IC-7600 is connected to a
Microham MKII keyer and an IC-PW-1 amp. I went into the Set/Others menu
and
changed the CIV Transceive function from its default ON to OFF. That did
the trick. Now I get no erratic or intermittent behavior when DXB reads
the
VFOs while in Split mode. So, if you have an Icom radio and start seeing
problems with your VFOs changing frequencies after DXB reads them try
turning the CIV Transceive OFF and see if the problem goes away.

As always thanks again to Joe - for updating the Icom drivers in the
radios.ini file and for jumping in to help me resolve my issue. Turns out
his driver settings were not the problem, but I still appreciate his taking
an interest in my problem and trying to help me get it solved. Great
    support!
