Just FYI to all who might have been following this thread ...

I linked up with Fred (N0XA) via TeamViewerQS and found that something is VERY
STRANGE
when it comes to the alerts.dat file .. which is where the contents of this
CALLSIGN ALERTS
is SAVED ..

BOTTOMLINE in getting Fred going -- was: I literally zipped-up MY OWN (known
good) alerts.dat
file and then downloaded the saved my alerts.dat to his computer ... WE WERE
ALL OK thereafter ...

BUT - what is really baffling me is:: If the alerts.dat file (for whatever
reason) is corrupted or
simply not working correctly ... and, I simply DELETE that alerts.dat file
-- in the HOPES that
DXbase would BY DEFAULT create a new one for us -- NOPE !!! Never-happen!!!

When I deleted the alerts.dat file (here at my qth (windows XP)) -- and
opened back up DXbase -
went to the Tools/Options/User Options // Alerts TAB --- CALLSIGN ALERT button
---
I SEE the word empty ... So, I go ahead and plug-in a callsign and save it in
the manner that we always
do to save the new entry -- and then OK out of that -- then go back in -- and
SEE empty (word) again ---
no saving at all ... no matter what I do -- nada ....

So - I brought over to my XP machine the GOOD (known good) alerts.dat file
and I am ok again ---

HECK -- this baby is not working like I thought it should have .... but, FRED
is GOING OK now ...

Neal -- if you have the time in the future -- can you take a look at the coding
for the area of the
Callsign Alerts -- and tell us what happens "if no alerts.dat file is found"
.... cause it ain't doing what
I thought it would do ...

Just FYI to all

I am running XP & do I really need to turn off my UAC? Several people use this
computer but if thats the problem I'll give it a shot.
Also, I have it installed in the C:\ root folder rather than the Program Files.
Is that an issue?

If you are running Windows7 be sure you have the properties of your LINK to
DXbase setup
as "Run as Administrator" -- and -- also Turn OFF your UAC (User Account
Control) ...

Is your DXbase located in the Programs Files area (if you are running
Windows7)?? Or did
you install DXbase into it's own directory right off of C:\ drive?
