T.L. and all DXbase users:

This is the best offer I can make for a step-by-step guide to making the Z8
updates:

(1) Open DXbase program -- go to Main Menu / Tools/ Database Access / Country
Prefixes ...

(2) In the "Primary" TAB - scrolldown to the bottom of that window and ENTER
the following
in a new line (entry):

Prefix =  Z8
Country = Rep of South Sudan
LAT = +4.86
LON = -31.6
Deleted = NO CHECKMARK
Field Check = YES - make a CHECKMARK
Bureau = NO CHECKMARK
CQ = 34
ITU = 48
ARRL-ID = (leave BLANK for NOW) - this is important and you MUST come back to
this later.
Continent = AF
TZDIFF = +0300

(3) Now, EXIT (X) the Prefix Databases window - so that the new entry will be
written and saved and
the database updated.

(4) Now - go to ANY of your ST0R (South Sudan DXped callsign) QSOs in your QSO
Logbook window,
and manually CHANGE the Prefix column to read now as: Z8

(5) Go again to Main Menu / Tools/ Database Access / Country Prefixes ...
and this time open the CALL MAP Tab --- find any entry in that table that you
might have made
for the PREVIOUS entry for South Sudan (such as ST0R ST0S) ... if you have made
ANY entry
in the Call Map TAB for ST0R then change that entry's Prefix column to now read
as:  Z8

SO that now the Callsign of ST0R is mapped to Z8 Prefix.

(6) Exit (X) the Prefix Databases window again ...

(7) Go again to Main Menu / Tools/ Database Access / Country Prefixes ...

and this time open the ALIAS MAP Tab --- find any entry that you might have made
for the PREVIOUS entry for South Sudan (such as ST0S ST0S) .. I will talk now
as if
you used the ST0S prefix for the previous prefix for South Sudan ... DELETE any
entry/entries
you made in the ALIAS MAP table that have the ST0S in the "Pri Pfx" column --
you will be
deleting the whole LINE for that entry / entries ..

(8) While still in the Alias Map tab - scrolldown to the bottom of the window
and in the
bottom (new line) make the folowing entry:

Map Pfx = Z8
Pri Pfx = Z8

(9) Exit (X) out of this Prefix Databases window ---

(10) Go again to Main Menu / Tools/ Database Access / Country Prefixes ...

and this time open the Primary Tab -- and this time we will scrolldown in the
PRIMARY TAB window
to look for and find the ST0S (or whatever YOU CALLED South Sudan's previous
prefix) entry
and DELETE that line completely (Delete Record) ... If DXbase gives you a
pop-up warning window
that says that you can NOT do that right now -- that simply is telling you that
YOU DID NOT find an delete
all of the previous entries (as we did above) -- so, you must now find the
STILL THERE entries ...
Once you CAN DELETE the ST0S (or whatever YOU CALLED South Sudan's previous
prefix) entry --
then you now can look for an find the new Z8 entry in this Primary TAB window
and look over to the
ARRL-ID column and NOW you MUST type in the

ARRL-ID =  521

(11) Exit (X) the Prefix Databases window ---

(12) Now -- do an "Initialize Tables" --- you should be ALL OK now ...

REMEMBER that there are MANY different techniques/ways to make these manual
updates -- the above is
simply one of those methods ... use the above information as you wish ...

      Joe,

For those DXBase members who want to update the new Z8 prefix manually, do you
have a step-by-step procedure for doing this. In the past, I remember you
issuing such a document for other new prefixes. While there is not a great
number asking for this, nevertheless I have seen other DXBasers like me asking
for such a document in recent weeks.

Let me thank you again for all of the support you provide for DXBase. This
database would be stalled in the mud without your help and support.

ALL:

Just a heads-up about a callsign that is in the AMBIGUOUS category for Prefixes
...

Just saw that the callsign TO5K will be used from Martinique (NA-107)
from 24-25 March 2012 during the CQ WW WPX SSB contest. This callsign will
default
to France (F) because of the Alias Map table mapping - and, because this
is one of those Ambiguous prefixes.

This callsign is not currently MAPPED in the CALLMAP table -- so, if you want,
simply make a dummy QSO with this callsign and change the PREFIX column
of your logbook mdb file to FM and then when the pop-up asks you if you want
to save this TO5K mapped to FM -- say YES/OK ---- Then delete that dummy QSO ..

The CALLMAP table will now be updated in advance so that if you work this
station -- it will have the correct PREFIX in your logbook QSO window ...
