OK, so sort of not ham related but here goes anyway. I have a large number of VHS tapes that I need to transfer to DVD or Blu-ray. I tried using a VHS player connected to a DVD recorder but the end result was that there was a significant loss of video quality on the DVD that was created. So, I'm looking for some other way of going about this that would preserve the video quality from the original.
A search of the web reveals that there are some PC software products that claim to be able to transfer from VHS to DVD by creating a video file on your PC which you can then write to a DVD. I see a lot of reviews about these that focus on "how easy or difficult the software may be to use", or how many different formats the software supports. But I just don't see much mention about the quality of the end result. Anyone have experience with doing this or know of any solutions that would let me preserve the video quality on my VHS tapes that are transferred? Appreciate any insights.
