Hey guys, You rarely see me on this reflector, but I monitor the traffic daily. Been a DXBase user since way back into the early DOS days and have never looked elsewhere for a general purpose logging program.
I will freely admit that the reason I have stuck with DXBase has been the added value of Joe as the tireless guru, always there to help those of us who need help. I so appreciate that and have recommended DXBase to many, not only because of the quality of the product but primarily because of the quality of the support from Joe. There are truly some annoying features in DXBase that have made me think about switching over the years but, with Joe around for support, I wasn't about to switch. I know that DXBase will never be the pot of gold at the end of the rainbow for Neil, and it's tough to criticize a labor of love, but with Joe gone now I will guarantee that I will take a close look at what else is out there prior to upgrading my current version of DXBase. Several days ago I sent an email to you, Neal, asking for a new license file as I needed my novice call added to export and do reports with and still have not heard a word. I understand your computer business is keeping you busy but then I am wondering if you should have taken on the DXBase development. Apparently you are too busy with your other endeavors which is your decision and no one is going to try to say you shouldn't but then to make the promises over and over tends to push people away. Yes, I am presently searching for an alternative logging program that will serve my needs. I have found a couple. More than four years ago I 'predicted' on the reflector that the future of dxbase was questionable after Jack stopped having a sales booth at Dayton. Many of my colleagues here were outspokenly critical of my comments. Then you rode in, bought the IP and everything was said to be rosy again. However, in the years that have gone by there has seemingly not been any progress, no booth at Dayton (although you said you were present 'working' another sales booth), no product development that we hams could see and except for the superior customer service offered by Joe not much activity: [like perhaps many others I once posted a problem I was having and was surprised by a personal telephone call from Joe to talk me through the solution, all at his expense]. So, like Joe (but without his intimate knowledge of the program), I too am probably gone because I simply don't have much confidence in the future of dxbase. 73 Larry W4RA > -----Original Message----- > From: Neal Campbell [mailto:nealk...@me.com] > Sent: Thursday, May 10, 2012 7:39 AM > To: 'Giuseppe Giunta - IT9VDQ'; dxbase@mailman.qth.net > Subject: Re: [Dxbase] Joe is now QRT - GONE - I truely have had enough > ... > > Guys, > > I am indeed working on fixing the bug for CD Callbook lookups' bearing > calculation bug in the 2007 version. > > Joe has a long history on this reflector and I think we can all thank > him for his help. > > But, Joe also has a history of these announcements of leaving and > coming back (at least in my history with the list). The license upgrade service is one that is free and I am happy to do as I have the time. I spend a lot of time each day with DXB support. I know you do not hear of it on the list but I connect to and support many DXB users each week, almost every dat. Its nothing I expect glory from, it comes with the territory. When I purchased this from Jack, DXB2007 was out with an established user base. Since then there has not been one single request for money from those people, only the ones who purchased a new DXB2007 license since then have provided any monetary renumeration to me since then. I admit to prioritizing my day based on health issues first, revenue second and learning third. Never have hid that fact which means that I do not promise 24 hour turn around on license modifications (although the great majority do come within that). Again, my apologies but I wanted to get my position clearly outlined so you can know how I deal with it. 73 Neal On May 10, 2012, at 9:10 AM, KQ8M-1 wrote: > Sorry to say but I am with Larry.
