Hi Nelly, I travelled many times with Egypt Air carrying the pen and also insulin and never found such a formal procedure, even they didn't mind putting the insulin and the preservation coolant in the fridge .
But I don't know about other airlines or if there is any int'l regulation, as It may be done freindly at Egyptair.
