As a 56k modem user, I am fully aware of the problems associated with the size
of the java download.  But I must point out that the internet is not the only
source.  Many magazines put various plaugins on their cover disks and $AU15
every 6 months isn't that big a cost.

I'll admit that flash was not the greatest example, but there are many plugins /
software packages out there that people don't think twice about downloading.

What really comes in to questions is how willing the end user is to getting hold
of the software.  Flash and similar "pretty" plugins have been able to rely on a
strong "yuppy" value.

Java, on the other hand, has been dirven by a "technical" value and not that
many end users really care about that unless they can see the end product for
comparison.

In closing, I should clarify that the only OS I have ever personally paid for
Linux and am all for taking down MS from the inside.  Bring on the next round of
court cases. : P
