Since the website is under our own control, there is no reason why a 
separate notice board could be created for 2.9 announcements.  Then it is 
just a matter of linking from the main page instead of confusing the reader 
with two sets of concurrent release notes.

Also, regarding the webspace offer, there isn't much that we can't already 
do with the SF space.
