Ahh, answering my own question, sort of. I was using Mozilla 1.4 for testing. I tried in IE6, and I was prompted about a JavaScript error. Using the builtin JavaScript debugger, I saw the output of the php file. It was somewhat malformed. Now I have the hook I was looking for; I have the error feedback now so I can correct the PHP code. But if anyone else has other ideas how to approach this part of the development, let me know.
