I'd love to start working on something like that, but I just don't have the time right now :(
I also agree that it's useful to have a JS and Java versions of a compress / merge type tool, it just seems like a waste with all the duplicate logic. Maybe there's some way to extract out the logic to XML or something, that way the 2 versions could share.
