This part isn't entirely clear:

You can show an image on a DynLayer either by setting it as background
image:
myLayer.setBgImage('blah.gif')
Or by writing it as an html string:
myLayer.setHTML('<img src=blah.gif >')
Using the second method you can also nest <div>s with several images in the
layer.
If you want to change the image' source on the fly, you can reference it
like this:
myLayer.doc.images[0].src='blah2.html'
