Well, www.php.net is a good place to start for information.  It is a server side scripting language.  Like ASP it can replace most things that you might use CGI for.  PHP runs on both apache and iis.  It’s loosely comparable to c++/javascript as far as code style goes.  I have use PHP for a couple of projects.  I like it as a scripting language but I find the lack of consistency in places a little annoying.  It is much less refined than ASP, JSP, or JavaServlets.  As far as performance goes it is quite comparable to ASP.  Database connectivity in PHP leaves a LOT to be desired.  In my opintion (and my department’s) I prefer working with ASP more.  With the introduction of MS’s .NET standard ASP+ will most like take the place of ASP for us.

Hope that helps a little. =)
