Because NS can't access the inner html of the layer, you can't manipulate
the contents.
I am part-way through a solution for this, but I've too much work at the
moment.

You can only access the layer as an object, and change the position and size
etc.
Usually I use the inline layer as a place-keeper, moving a dynlayer to that
position, and showing the text in the dynlayer.

There are more inline examples scattered around my site, but they are a pain
to use cross-browser.
