Well... it "worked perfectly" in NS4.08 when I tried it earlier... but it
hasn't worked since. :-((( After a couple of hours of experimentation,
here's the full story:-

In my tests: if you have an IMG in a TABLE in a (dyn)layer in NS4.xx, NS4
won't display this layer *until you resize or somehow refresh the window
it's in*. I must've fluked this the first time I ran it - I was so pleased
to see it running at all, I put my critical faculty aside. :-/

This is irritating, but probably fixable... however...

The *big* problem is: after you've dragged and dropped layers around for a
few minutes, NS4 will suddenly stop recognising any of your layers as being
draggable: and it will then crash in the following 30 seconds. This happens
on both NS4.08 and NS4.76.

This is pretty bad.

Here's the version with the IMG-in-a-TABLE-in-a-layer.
  <http://www.nickpelling.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/chesstest/dyntest.htm>

And the same, but with <CENTER><IMG ... ></CENTER> (ie, how it was before)
  <http://www.nickpelling.pwp.blueyonder.co.uk/chesstest/dyntest2.htm>

Without vertical alignment, all the chess-pieces line up with the top of
the squares, which doesn't look very nice. But at least it doesn't crash. :-/

So: it looks like the IMG-in-TABLE-in-layer thing - although clever - isn't
a good idea if you want compatibility with NS4.xx. :-(

Does anybody have any other ideas for vertically aligning images in
dynlayers with NS4.xx? :-|

Cheers, .....Nick Pelling.....

PS: there is a documented NS4 bug to do with IMG-in-a-layer-in-a-TABLE (as
opposed to IMG-in-a-TABLE-in-a-layer)... this is probably all part of the
same thing. :-/
