The expression is certainly useless but it solves a Mac bug. Accessing 
th offsetHeight property forces IE Mac to calculate the content size and 
return the correct value. If you want to stop NS 6 complaining change it 
to variableTonta = this.elm.offsetHeight. The effect will be the same 
and the statement itself won't be considered useless by NS6's parser
