Hey gang,
I started playing with the demo of E-0.14 over the weekend (I know, day
late and dollar short), and I had a suggestion.
As the E motto goes, Raster and Mandrake have made us rethink everything,
all for the better. The "scrolling shade" desktop management is very
nice. The thing I have noticed after playing with it is that the
desktops, when they slide down into oblivion, still contain the windows
that belong to them. It seems a bit unwieldy to try to remember which
window was on what desktop and get to that desktop. The easiest way I
found to do that was to not completely retract a desktop, which cuts down
on the available real estate of the desktop you are on at that moment.
(I use the ADD method of desktop management, in that I bounce between
things rapidly).
I know Raster was talking about some sort of xray button to find desktops
underneath the one that you were working on. I think this is a good thing
as far as that goes, but my understanding was that he was only talking
about the top bar showing up in the xray (at least that was the
understanding I had). But since my concern is the desktops that have been
retracted, I don't know how that would work.
My suggsestion was once a desktop was created, when you retract it,
instead of disappearing completely, maybe leaving a part of it visible on
the bottom | top | sides of the screen, and possibly listing the windows
that are open in that desktop. This would serve the same utility as the
active pager in BETA-0.13.x, where a picture of the deskto, including
open windows was drawn.
Doable? Desirable? Other comments?
Thanks,
--Storm
