But E can provide a common interface for enlightened applications for
allowing the saving of files by dragging an icon to a filer window. The
Risc-OS system caters for this by providing a communications interface
between applications so that when an icon is dragged from one
application to another, the two applications can then communicate with
each other and transfer data (including path names for a filer system so
the application knows where to save, or for a RAM transfer of data
between programs).

That, I suppose, could be built into E?

Then an enlightened filer could be written by a 3rd party if need be
which would complete the whole thing, and could even be bundled in the E
distribution.
