DeCSS is a small program that decrypts DVDs. Hollywood is pretty much
upset by that and sued everyone that had or linked to DeCSS. The EFF
frequently sponsers lawyers etc..

RSA is a public key encryption algorithm. It was patented in the US and
everyone using it had to use their implementation and pay them lotsa
monies.
It's the algorithm that was used in the earlier versions of PGP. It's
still supported, but the default right now is ElGamal/DSA, only because
RSA was patented :)
