Well now, as a fire will not burn without oxygen, commerce will not 
flourish without advertising.

In any sphere of enterprise, commerce and capitalism will not 
flourish without relevant communications:

* big consumer brands exist only through TV advertising

* local businesses fail without signage and promotions

* medium businesses must have radio, newspaper and poster advertising 
to survive

* personal community trade in second hand cars and household items 
exists only because of city newspaper classifieds

* 65% of movie-going is decided by movie trailers

* specialist manufacturers and services exist by reaching their 
market through advertising in relevant magazines

* businesses and commercial ideas that are new and different, use PR 
to get articles and stories in the media

Note that there was no advertising (other than for the State) in 
communist regions.  There's an old saying "everyone hates advertising 
until they want to sell their fridge."

Now -- note that, looking at the analogies above,

e-gold commerce:

        * has NO "trailers"
        * has NO "posters"
        * has very limited "articles"
        * has NO signage

As a matter of fact, THE ONLY ADVERTISING "FUEL" FOR THE ENTIRETY OF 
e-GOLD COMMERCE, IS, THE e-gold.com DIRECTORY PAGE.

And, the as-yet fairly modest efforts of the two or three e-gold 'info' sites.

Again, THE ONLY ADVERTISING "FUEL" FOR THE ENTIRETY OF e-GOLD 
COMMERCE, IS, THE e-gold.com DIRECTORY PAGE --

And that is TOTALLY INADEQUATE.

Quite simply, there will be no great engine of e-gold commerce until 
there's a "trailer" for e-gold commercial entities.

Consider this:  on two or three occasions, I have put to investors 
substantial schemes to develop business enterprises which are e-gold 
centered.

With the now-huge usership of e-gold, and the ever-growing stats 
page, it is a "no brainer" sell.

I've had investors ready to write checks for a few hundred thousand 
bucks for an e-gold based enterprise -- agaiun it's just a no brainer 
with the sunstantial circulation, now, of e-gold.

But the question simply arises "and how do we communicate with the 
universe of e-gold users"

The answer is "You can't."

"Does e-gold sell the email list of users?"

"No, they don't."  (Quite correctly.)

"I see that there are now a phenomenal number of transactions per 
day, approaching ten thousand, surely we can advertise on that 
functionality?"

"NO -- you can't."

"Why did you waste my time with this nonsense?"

I urge e-gold to adopt this model

The e-gold site itself is the "streets and town" of the e-gold 
economy --- and that street and town HAS NO SIGNAGE.

The e-gold site itself is the "feature movie" of the e-gold economy 
--- and that movie theater SHOWS NO TRAILERS.

The e-gold site itself is the "media" of the e-gold economy -- and 
that "media" ALLOWS NO ARTICLES OF ADVERTISING PAGES.

A business simply WILL NOT EXIST without signage, promotion, 
communications or advertising; it is dead in the water.  If you don't 
have great street position, or excellent signage, or effective 
newspaper and radio ads, you have nothing.

Any e-gold businesses which are trying to start up --- AND THERE ARE 
MANY, AS WE SPEAK --- are simply dead in the water. There's no point 
bothering because it is impossible for the business idea to have 
street frontage, signage, or advertising.

{The e-gold directory page is, unfortunately, as totally ineffective 
as any other sort of non-capitalistic approach to communications: 
e-gold, generously, dole out "a little but of communication to all" - 
it's just what would happen if government completely took over 
advertising in a city! The city government would have one large 
"appointed billboard" and it would dole out messages for city 
businesses on there!}

is needed RIGHT NOW, by the END OF FEBRUARY, so that business plans 
formulating for the 2001 season can happen by spring and be 
implemented through summer -- otherwise 2001 will be just another 
year with "nothing to do with" e-gold other than hold it.

Would be the STREET FRONTAGE, THE SIGNAGE, THE MAGAZINE ARTICLE, and 
THE NEWSPAPER AD of the "e-gold commercial world"

A tidy NINE THOUSAND, ONE HUNDRED actual e-gold spenders would have 
seen the example advertisement in the mock-up above, in the last 24 
hours.

What is that?

That is the OXYGEN that makes commerce burn.

The reason there IS NO legitimate e-gold commercial universe at the 
moment, other than the ridiculous scams, is because there's no 
legitimate e-gold "street frontage, signage, or advertising".

if there's going to be any investment in e-gold commercial projects 
and ideas in 2001.

Anyone have any other good ideas to turn the e-gold web interface 
into the legitimate e-gold "street frontage, signage, and 
advertising" of e-gold commerce?
