here's a famous joke that everyone who's ever worked in advertising knows:
"Once up on a time, this designer dies, and he goes up
to the pearly gates.
St Pete is pretty much stunned .. "dude, you're the FIRST
DESIGNER who has ever made it up here! You are the only
graphic designer in heaven!"
The Designer is delighted and pictures all the perks
and women he will get, being the ONLY graphic designer
in heaven. The only one!
Sure enough St Pete says "Dude, this is such an achievement,
to begin with, we are going to give you this magnificent
1969 RESTORED HOT PINK CADILLAC ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE, with
CUSTOM PLATES "D E S I G N E R", for you to drive around
in!"
St Pete tosses him the keys to the magnificent 30 foot long
hot pink '69 eldorado convertible with custom "DESIGNER"
plates, with a wink. The designer drives off with the ragtop
down and he's loving it.
He's getting chics like crazy, he always have a nice tan, and
out front of all the cool cafes downtown in heaven the valets
always leave his car right in front.
But then one day, disaster! the designer is stopped at a
red light and ... *ANOTHER* 1969 RESTORED HOT PINK CADILLAC
ELDORADO CONVERTIBLE, with CUSTOM PLATES "D E S I G N E R",
crosses him at the lights!!!!!
He is absolutely shocked! The designer burns rubber to
the pearly gates, and, infuruiated, tells St Pete about
the incident. "You said I was the ONLY designer in heaven!"
"Oh, don't worry," says St Pete. "That was just God ..
everyone likes to think they're a designer."
The bottom line and blunt version: if you're not a graphic designer,
don't embarass yourself (like I often do) or waste time by thinking
you are one.
