Our #1 advantage, of course, is that subpoena and other legal attacks don't apply here, either. We don't turn any servers over intact. If someone presented a clear and present threat to our continued survival, and we couldn't defend ourselves militarily, we would destroy the server and turn it over, and optionally refund customer money. We only appeal to legitimate people, though, because a criminal would just take a stolen credit card and get an unreliable but untraceable server at a traditional US hosting facility. Offshore in general is only really attractive to people who want to do things legally, just under different laws or conditions. > I've heard they've 'only' got .50 *caliber*. Yes. A good deal of our security comes from our physical structure; with 24" concrete walls and 60' sheer face between it and the sea, you could probably defend with a pair of boltcutters for ropes and some mylar sheets for helicopters. Our equipment choices balance defense with not provoking our neighbors (and cost; having seen pricelists for just about everything, it makes network equipment look cheap...no wonder the global military budgets are so high vs. other components) Sealand has had experience with invasion and counterinvasion, and the people who do our physical security are all incredibly competent ex-military (generally older, and wiser, and also good at maintenance and marine tasks).
