The main distinguishing mark between an out and out Ponzi scheme and
a Pyramid scheme is that most pyramid schemes purport to be selling
some sort of product, catalogue, idea etc. This is done with various
degrees of honesty and acheivability. While women selling make-up and
pots and pans to their friends is the more honest end of the pyramid
scheme, there is always a degree of dishonesty as the promoters must
misrepresent the viability of the scheme and the earnings potential.
Ponzi schemes, on the other hand, are usually nothing more than a
piece of blue sky, a tried and true scam. Oh well, fools and their
money....
