Hi everybody, I went to Google this morning to check my stats as an advertiser... and noticed that there is yet another imposter... this guy isn't even trying to hide the URL or anything.
I ripped the site open and found some info: BOGUS LOGIN URL: http://server2.websytz.com/~egold/acct/login.asp BOGUS FORM LOCATION: http://skj00.al.ru/cgi-bin/form.cgi Sure, we could go and click the hell out of the link and dry it up... however, the card being used may be stolen... death-clicks may not be the solution... besides, the .ru link seems to be dead. Rather than wasting our time dissecting these guys and their operations or beating the subjects, leterally, into the ground; I have a simple and effective solution: do nothing but announce the bogus URLs to our subscriber lists. Example: Bogus site goes live and is discovered... Step One: send a notice to the e-gold List here... Step Two: instantly send the same or similar notice to your website subscribers... This way, the scammer gets very little reaction from the community, as well as very little action on the bogus website. People are informed and the day continues safely. I'm sure that between all the eCurrency community and industry websites, we can pretty much cover over half the total population associated with e-gold... hell, maybe even more; I'm underestimating here... you get my point I'm sure. Let's do away with the ridiculous witch hunts (escrow-trade.com - e-Qold.com - etc...) and actually make a difference... let's be smarter about this... So, what say thee? Community and industry communications when a bogus site appears? It can work... if we work together!
