Quite right, David. I find payments between National Australia Bank
accounts also clear immediately, but I have noticed that those between NAB
and Bendigo Bank may take overnight. For our American friends some months
ago I did see a demo of an Internet Bank account in Seattle that provided
ACH payments or similar, but as they wanted thousands of US dollars to open
an account, I didn't. While my Bendigo Bank Internet Banking system is a
bit crude (compared to the state of the art NAB Internet Banking), I only
have passbook accounts (which includes Internet Banking) and I do not pay a
single cent in fees or government charges.

Even my NAB accounts are much cheaper than US Bank accounts, which reminds
me why some people may keep modest balances in E-GOLD.

E-GOLD has very low transaction fees, and instant clearance when doing
business with people in *any* country, and even the one percent (per year)
agio fee may be lower than an American bank account's monthly fees on a
small account. Throw in the Shopping Cart Interface, and the availability
of e-gold proxy accounts such as 1mdc to remove the agio fee on surplus
gold, or Graham Kelly's GoldNow.st offer to pay interest for your gold,
then there certainly can be no reason for anyone not to have an e-gold account.
