It is my understanding that Parex Bank is closing down all its so-called anonymous debit card (Cirrus) accounts on 31st May unless the cardholders provide fully notarized ID by then.
This does NOT have any immediate effect on Fidex's Bearer ATM cards which are issued through another Latvian bank, Lateko. However, my personal opinion is that other Latvian banks will be under a lot of pressure to follow Parex's lead... it's just a matter of when. I would like to take this opportunity to remind people that our primary debit card product, the Fidex Maestro card, has absolutely nothing to do with Latvia and is not affected by these changes. It is issued in St Vincent. Fidex Maestro cards are NOT anonymous they can be opened with much less hassle than the standard Latvian procedure of visiting a notary, certifying your ID etc... Take a look at Fidex's site http://www.e-fidex.com for details of the Fidex Maestro and Privacy Accounts.
