As most know, I *had* to require passwords to prevent scammers from getting around my no-HYIP-scams rule. This requirement/rule shall not change, other alternatives (which, as I predicted, more & more resemble the cypherpunks list, in at least one case) exist...I happen to LIKE the lower traffic and various automated antinoise requirements here, and I see unsub-reports every month, which suggest that it's an improvement which has allowed readership to grow, so I'm REALLY not-inclined to change anything. email to a list SHOULD, for _elementary_ 'netiquet reasons, not-quote entire- previous-messages (which invariably also-quoted entire-previous- messages). Instead, subscribers should take a BIT more time on such messages, editing them for noise, spelling, and (dare I say?) coherence, before hitting the ol' send button. Not everyone thinks I'm correct (and they are wrong, as I just pointed out, and free to go post lots of noise elsewhere!). As for spam, when you send an email to a list like this one, spam is IMO just-about inevitable. I wish it weren't, but trying to avoid it by obscuring email addresses is pointless because it's security through obscurity, and spammers are unfortunately free to subscribe. With or without logging in, spammers will spam. It's their nature, and the effective way to fight them ISN'T to make email an ineffective way to communicate with eachother. IMNSHO.
