Absolutely true. Indeed, I encourage everyone to take every claim with a
grain of salt. If anonymity is important to you, take such claims with
two grains of salt.

With regards to Lucrative, there are a few reasons to believe that this
claim might accurately describe the implementation.

First, all the crypto is public information. None of it is hidden from
view, it's described in a nice paper by Ben Laurie, and was developed
largely on publicly archived mailing lists. Ben Laurie's source code,
and Lucrative's, is easily available and open source. There's no
"security through obscurity" here.

It could be argued that the cryptographic foundation is inadequate.
However, it has been vetted by cryptographers and cypherpunks since its
inception in 1996. Several problems have already been identified and
corrected. David Wagner has indicated that he may try to get the digital
cash protocol published, which can only help.

Second, all the "anonymizing" part of the system is done by the end
user's software, not the mint. The client software is open source so
anyone who wants to look under the hood can do so.

For the truly paranoid, it might be possible to let software clients
talk to the mint without revealing their location on the Internet. But
that's another topic.

Yes, please do. I'll have some info sent to you.
