James, How much did you lose over the OSGold fiasco, James?
In fact, I actually agree with you on one point... obviously, Reeds character was flawed, and similar to the failed BrightPay admin, there's not a lot you can do to stop the effects of a bad apple. Which means that a bad apple can destroy a great business. We all know 100's of business examples, where fathers leave good businesses to sons, and amazingly, the cash cow business fails within a short time! However, gold backed or no, there is plenty of room for a number of well run non backed ecurrencies, IMO. I believe there are quite a number of large companies now launching their OWN DC's, for use with their own employee's and internal costing tranfers, thereby avoiding local bank charges. (Now, there's an opportunity for some quick thinking individuals! :)) In fact, they are currently issuing NO NAME debit cards, commonly called employee cards. I understand Reed may have told lies about whether it was gold backed, or cash backed, or non backed. Frankly, whether it was backed or not when it was started, didn't seem to matter to the OSGold customers, at the time. I don't think that most people were under any sort of false illusion about whether it was backed, or not. They were happy to deal in it, regardless (according to my records!) GoldNow dealt with OSGold as an ecurrency, and had very little to do with OSOpps, at all. Reed advertised that the OSOpps program would finish sooner or later (check out the archives!), and it did. My major mistake was I didn't realise that the OSOpps program would take down the OSGold ecurrency, and that little blunder cost me, for which I blame no-one but myself. Most valuable lessons were gleaned. One more point: Rumour has it that Reed is on this list! Hello David. Feel free to contribute, at any time!
