People go after micropayments for two reasons:

1.  There is no widely deployed micropayment mechanism.
(e-gold seems ot have the best micropayment penetration, from
what I can tell)

2  Fear of lawyers -- there are lots of legal restrictions
against competing with banks.  If you go after micropayments
alone, you are not violating any of the many US laws protecting
the banking cartel from internal or external competition.
