The diamond market is about like the "Precious Moments" figurines market, with Debeers replacing the ceramics co. but they could easily "inflate" the diamond market hugely because they have tremendous stores of them.
I am constantly urging the female members of my family (especially my mom) to forsake precious stones -- especially diamonds, in favor of gold or platinum jewelry. I like cubic zirconia crystals as much as diamonds anyway. (Calling her diamonds "carbon, just compacted-charcoal!!" has minimal effect on her outlook.) Debeers has very effective ads... JMR
