http://www.fema.gov/emanagers/2004/nat091204.shtm National Situation Update: Sunday, September 12, 2004 Charley / Frances Recovery and Preparation for Hurricane Ivan Hurricane Frances Shelter Information as of September 11, 2004 at 5:00 pm: Total Red Cross - 36 Shelters with a population of 1,265 persons. Total Other Shelters - 31 Shelters with a population 1,725 persons. Total Special Needs Shelters - 22 Shelters with a population of 748 persons. Red Cross Meals and Snacks served for the period: 39,986 Red Cross Emergency Response Vehicles deployed for the period: 137 Health and Medical Services: Supporting mosquito control efforts throughout impacted areas. Deployed environmental health specialist to assess public health needs of people impacted by loss of water treatment plant services, deployed Epidemiology Teams to support the Florida Health Department to monitor for a potential increase in certain diseases in the aftermath of the various storms impacting Florida. Providing support to the medical support mission at the Orlando Mega-shelter Mission, currently establishing shelter operations and deploying medical support personnel. Planning, coordinating, and developing initial operations for a very large-scale special needs (medical) shelter in Orlando are being finalized. Public Works and Engineering: Issued pre-declaration missions for Hurricane Ivan for Regional Activation, Water, Ice, Debris, Temporary Roofing, Temporary Roofing and Logistics, the mission assignments are currently being processed as part of the National Activation mission. Assets will continue to execute life sustaining missions (Ice, Water and Power) for Frances until further notice - pending Hurricane Ivan arrival and impact area. Temporary Roofing: Contractor support includes 20 contractors with a total of 419 crews. The current inventory of tarps as previously reported is 5, 200, there are now 44,400 on order. There are 435 truckloads of water and 16 refrigerated trucks of ice on hand at various staging areas/cold storage warehouses in response to Frances. These assets continue to move to locations in need, as directed by FEMA. 100 refrigerated trucks of ice and 500 requested trucks of water have been ordered for delivery to Atlanta Cold Storage Facility in anticipation of Ivan. The delivery schedule for the 550 trucks of water is pending. 18 teams performed Rapid Needs Assessments (RNA) of damaged roofs in the five most impacted counties (St. Lucie, Brevard, Martin, Indian River, and Palm Beach). 93 generator installations are currently in progress.
